Ford Expedition
Ford Expedition
The Ford Expedition is a full-size SUV built by the Ford Motor Company. Introduced in 1997 as a replacement to the Ford Bronco, it was first slotted between the smaller Ford Explorer and the larger Ford Excursion, but as of 2007 is Ford’s largest SUV, with the standard regular-sized model and the larger EL/Max model, which succeeded the Excursion when it was discontinued in 2005.
If you need a really big sports utility vehicle with one of the widest range of trims, go for the 2009 Ford Expedition ($32,820 to $48,475). The Ford Expedition is the largest SUV in the market. It has had long standing success, with the 2002 model being voted as the ‘best full-size SUV in initial quality’ by J.D Power and Associates. The 16 different trims range from the basic Expedition trim to the XLT 4X2 to the Limited edition to King Ranch 4X4 and of course, the signature styled Eddie Bauer trim. The EL is a 15 inch longer version of the standard Expedition trim. The 2009 Ford Expedition is definitely one of the most versatile mean machines on all roads. It can pull campers, carry cargo, or even tow boats while proving its occupants the blissful feeling of idyllic luxury.
Trust the monster of an engine, the 5.4 liter V8 engine to take the fully occupied and laden 2009 Ford Expedition SUV through any road, even when you have to make your own path! The available four wheel drive system is welcome in the SUV. With multi-port electronic fuel injection, power anti-lock disc brakes and an excellent independent rear suspension, this SUV has what it takes to conquer the roads. The rear wheel drive trims and the all-wheel drive trims have the standard 6 speed transmission (with overdrive). The flexi-fuel engine is efficient enough though fuel economy is just about okay. In terms of braking and handling, the 2009 Expedition easily competes with other top contenders. Maneuvering around tight corners is surprisingly easy in this gentle giant.
This 2009 edition is a carryover from the 2008 model, and does not feature too many significant changes. Interiors are classic, with a variety of features like keyless entry, power doors and windows, air conditioning with rear seat control, running boards, front captain chair, adjustable pedals, Class III trailer hitch, and 6 way power driver seat among others. PowerFold third-row seating was well-received in 2008. The wide tires, leather trim upholstery, backup camera, rear parking assist, power moonroof, rear seat DVD, chrome fittings, and SYNC voice activated interaction are some of the excellent options available for the higher trims.
As always, the Ford Expedition caters to safety needs, with a Personal Safety System, AdvanceTrac with roll stability control, side-intrusion door beam, canopy airbags and ABS. The 2009 Ford Expedition SUV has been awarded 5 stars in driver and passenger front impact safety by NHTSA Frontal Crash Test. With Cars Everything saying this model “defines ‘utility’ in SUV”, you can consider the Expedition.
