Ford Edge
Ford Edge
The Ford Edge is a premium mid-size crossover SUV (CUV) manufactured by Ford, based on the Ford CD3 platform shared with previous generation Mazda6 and marketed in slightly modified form as the Lincoln MKX. Upon release, it was the first of Ford’s new-platform crossovers (unlike Ford Freestyle, which had a station wagon platform) and one of the first CUVs worldwide.
The 2009 Ford Edge is a crossover, also called an XUV, CUV, or crossover utility vehicle. It utilizes features originating in cars and also features derived from SUVs. The Edge first appeared in at the North American International Auto Show in 2006. The edge is the best-selling mid-size to large crossover in its class.
The Edge has either front-wheel or all-wheel drive, and it has very large wheels too! Its standard wheel size is 20 inches, but it comes with optional 22 inches. The Edge Sport is its proper name, but the Sport does not refer to a sports car, but rather the trim and appearance of a sports car. It functions distinctly like an SUV or crossover, not a sports car. It’s a five door SUV with a front engine built on the Ford CD3 platform. It has a 3.5L (213 CID) Duratec 35 V6 engine. Its transmission is 6-speed 6F automatic. Its wheelbase of 111.2 inches; its length of 185.7 inches; its width of 75.8 inches; its height is 67 inches.
The Edge is similar to the Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan, Mazda 6, Lincoln MKX, Mazda CX-9, and Lincoln Zephyr/MKZ, alongside other similar crossover vehicles. It stands out above the aforementioned ones though.
It has an MSRP from $26,130 to $35,095. It has an invoice from $24,665 to $32,562.
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration tests conclusively proved that the Edge rated 4/5 stars in frontal passenger and rollover tests, and it rated 5/5 in frontal driver and side impact metrics.
Because of the popularity of the Edge, it was granted dozens of awards. A few of them include the ‘Best Car for Families’ in 2007 and that was awarded by AAA and Parents Magazine mutually. It was given IIHS’s honor of ‘Top Safety Pick’. Its potent 3.5L Duratec 35 V6 was called one of the world’s ’10 best engines’ from Ward. On Wheels, a company endowed it with the prestigious title, ‘2007 Urban Truck of the Year’. Finally, J.D. Power and Associates 2007 gave it the awesome title of the ‘APEAL Award’. That’s not to discount the thousands of personal testimonials from drivers and customers that love the car not only for its safety, but also for its smooth driving and features. On Consumer Guide Automotive, it ranked 1.6 points above the average mid-size crossover in total categories combined. It has an overall 5 for customer satisfaction on Yahoo! Autos.
