The 2009 Ford Five Hundred is a successor to the original Taurus model. The four-door “modern American sedan” comes with both the front-wheel and the all-wheel drive options. Ford Freestyle

The Ford Taurus X is a 6- or 7-passenger full-size crossover SUV that was produced by Ford Motor Company in the United States. It was originally introduced in 2005 as the Ford Freestyle, before being renamed Taurus X for the 2008 model year. In Ford’s lineup, it replaced the Ford Taurus station wagon. The Taurus X ended production on February 27, 2009, as it was slotted between the Flex (to whom it made direct competition on the market) and the upcoming fifth generation Explorer starting 2011 sales year. It is sold in the United States and Canada, as well as South Korea and the U.S. territories of Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Guam.

The Taurus X is a new name for the crossover SUV that used to be called the Ford Freestyle earlier. However, the 2008 Ford Taurus X model has a host of improvements within, outside and underneath when compared to the old Freestyle model.

Similar to the Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable sedans, the Taurus X is somewhat based on the same architecture as the Volvo S80 luxury sedan and Volvo XC90 SUV and incorporates the same Swedish Haldex all-wheel-drive system as the Volvo on AWD versions. The newer Taurus X model brings some suspension changes. The new power train makes it more exciting to drive the 2008 Ford Taurus X than the older model. The new engine generates more power, and ensures greater speed to the truck (Ford says up to 44 percent quicker). The newer model also gets about 10 percent better fuel economy.

The Taurus X that is designed to compete with Mitsubishi Outlander, Nissan Murano, Buick Enclave, Saturn Outlook etc fits into the product lineup ahead of the five-seater Ford Edge crossover SUV that’s built similar to the Fusion model and before the larger luxurious and square cornered truck namely the upcoming 2009 Ford Flex.

Voice-activated DVD navigation system, reverse sensing system, power liftgate ($475), auxiliary HVAC system, DVD entertainment system, AdvanceTrac electronic stability control, power moonroof, heated seats, Sirius satellite radio equipment, and 18-inch seven-spoke chrome wheels are the options that come with the Ford Taurus X model.

The safety features in the car include front, side and curtain airbags, ABS and traction control. Five star ratings have been provided to the car in all four crash categories and a Top Safety Pick has been awarded by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). In this model, the All-wheel drive is optional while latch child seat anchors and rear safety locks are standard.

A 3.5-liter V-6 replaces the 3.0-liter engine in the Taurus X. Horsepower jumps from 203 to an estimated 260, and acceleration is estimated to be about 44 percent faster. A six-speed automatic transmission is standard, and all-wheel drive is optional.

Standard features include four-wheel-disc antilock brakes, traction control and an electronic stability system. Also other standard features include side-impact airbags for the front seats and side curtain airbags for all three rows. The side curtain airbags include Ford’s Safety Canopy system, that can maintain the airbags’ inflation for several seconds during a rollover.

Van or wagon, whatever the category, the Ford E-350 is definitely a tough contender for favorite truck. The E-350 Super Duty truck is massive, and quite impressive. Rugged exteriors and spacious interiors are the hallmark of this big cargo van or wagon. Cargo space extends up to 275 cubic feet and the vehicle can comfortably seat 15 occupants, so there is no doubt left about the passenger or cargo carrying capacity of this giant on wheels. Edmunds.com sums up the general view quite correctly: “Tough, roomy, rugged and reliable, Ford’s Econoline has a favorable, well-earned reputation.” Indeed, with good scores in most aspects, the E-350 cannot be ignored.

The trims are Commercial Cargo Van, Recreational Cargo Van, Commercial Extended Cargo Van, Recreational Extended Cargo Van, XL Wagon, XLT Wagon, XL Extended Wagon, and the XLT Extended Wagon. These are quite attractively priced at MSRP ranging from $28,885 to $34,695. The standard engine for all trims is the 5.4-liter Triton V8 that offers 255 horsepower. This engine works with a 4-speed automatic transmission. For those seeking differently, there are two interesting engine options: a 6.0 liter Powerstroke diesel engine offering 235 hp and another Triton V8 6.8 liter engine offering an amazing 305 hp. These options are mated to a TorqShift 5-speed automatic transmission.

While performance is certainly far from unsatisfactory, the wheelbase is narrow and the high center of gravity does not impose rollover safety, even with the roll-over mitigation system in place. Subsequently, the NHTSA rollover rating says “poor”. But otherwise, the 2009 Ford E-350 Super Duty truck has 4-wheel anti-lock disc brakes. The passenger wagon trims come with standard electronic stability and traction control. Interiors are nice and roomy. The Super Duty comes with a lovely new instrument panel which snugly incorporates a glove box.

The 2009 E-350 comes as a regular length truck as well as an extended length vehicle. Competition is strong today, with many companies focusing on this segment. But the Ford F-350 somehow survives and thrives. After all, the Ford stamp of quality still stands strong. Reliable performance, vast interiors and immense cargo space, together with classic good looks on a rugged base must work well for this E-350 Duper Duty vehicle. We like the new styling, engines and three duty ratings. Handling and fuel economy can be improved to a great extent. With a little redesign here and there, it should definitely beat most of the competitors.

Each trim is outfitted with a standard 4.6-liter Triton V-8 engine that can generate 225-horsepower. If that’s not enough juice, go for the 5.4-liter Triton V-8 which can also produce 255-horsepower. Either engine is controlled by a four-speed automatic transmission (complete with overdrive). All models have rear-wheel drive. The massive gas tank holds 35 gallons of unleaded fuel, and gets 15 MPG in the city and 19 MPG on the highway. In the 2009 model, both engines are flex fuel capable and have multi-point injection fuel systems. Whatever trim you choose, feel confident in the fact that this formidable van can also haul anywhere from 5,900 to 6,500 pounds depending on the engine. Often compared to the Chevrolet Express 2500 or the GMC Savanna 2500, the E-250 is comparable in power, pricing and room, yet has far more options and style.

The 2009 Ford E-250 has almost successfully stormed its way through the toughest tests. It is big and it is powerful. Even for a cargo van, the 2009 Ford E-250 is quite rugged and achieves the desired effect. It is designed as a roomy rear wheel drivetrain. In terms of performance, the 2009 cargo van from Ford is quite a high flier, with Triton V8 standard and optional engines that never fail to coast comfortably considering its size. The standard engine is a 4.6L V8 that performs at 225 hp while the 255 hp 5.4L engine is available as an option for the users. Both the V8 engines come with a standard 4 speed automatic transmission. They are designed as flex fuel engines, which improves performance to a great extent. The tilt steering wheel is standard in the Ford E-250 but a nice new instrument panel appears in the 2009 model, with a glove box incorporated. This makes the vehicle all the more convenient for controlling the sheer bulk.

Electronic Traction control is quite good in the 2009 E-250. Stability control is quite okay overall, considering that you haul heavy cargo in this van.

Braking is good, with the standard anti-lock disk brakes to control the 4 wheels. But the E-250 has a long way to go in terms of rollover safety, with the 2009 model managing a dismal “poor” according to NHTSA rollover tests. This apart, other standard features include variable intermittent wipers, air conditioning and underbody full size spare among others.

You can’t expect a delicate darling in terms of exteriors, because this is an authentic cargo van with rugged masculine looks that leave you breathless. The regular version is huge, but there is an extended length option as well. And they offer a recreational trim in additional to the commercial version. For making modifications without hassle, the recreational trim is an excellent candidate.

Go for the 2009 Ford E-250 cargo van if you want a rugged machine with vast interiors and excellent cargo room for your needs. But look for enhancements where possible. At about $26,095, pricing is hardly a bother.

While the E-150 van can tow as much as 7,500 pounds, the passenger van can tow 7,100 pounds. No wonder then that Edmunds. This Class 7 truck was fitted with either a Caterpillar C7 engine developing 300 hp or a Cummins ISB unit producing 325 hp. The new model was available with a wide range of transmissions – manual or automatic – and offering a maximum GVWR rating of 16.5 tons. The new truck featured 3 types of cab – regular, super cab and a later-developed crew cab – and was assembled at the Escobedo Plant in Monterrey, Mexico.
